Supply and Demand is a term which describes how a economy or market works. Supply is how much of something is there and demand is how badly that object is desired.
How does supply and demand affect the environment?
This applies to the environment because the environment is a kind of market. There are a given amount of food, water and resources and there is a demand for them. Things like clean water and food are determined by a supply and demand chain.
How is the supply and demand chain maintained?
Predators help keep supply and demand in check. They make sure nothing grows too quickly and dominates. Nature is a bunch of checks and balances designed to keep this process going. Another way nature maintains equilibrium is disease. Disease prevents anything from growing out of control.

How humans disrupt the supply and demand chain?
Humans are anomaly when it comes to equilibrium. We have yet to find a balance with nature. Normal limiters like disease or predators don't apply as we are the top of the food chain and we develop ways to combat illness. This has caused our population and demand for resources to increase exponentially. This makes it nearly impossible for the human race to balance with nature. Nature is beginning to have a hard time to support us as evidenced: less natural resources, polluted water, and extinction of animals to name a few.
